- DIMAPUR — The
lone Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland, S Supongmeren Jamir, has sought the
intervention of Union Home Minister to alleviate the plight of Nagaland Village
Guards (NVG).
- The MP raised the issue during the ongoing second leg of the
Parliament budget session 2025 on March 12, stated an update from NPCC
communication department.
- Jamir stated that the village guards, despite playing a
pivotal role in guarding 120 villages along the Indo-Myanmar border covering
six districts including Mon, Tuensang, Kiphire, Meluri, Noklak and Longleng
since its inception in 1957, has been neglected by both the state government
and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
- He stated that the monthly salary of INR 3,000, annual
clothing allowances of INR 100 and monthly ration allowance of INR 60 being
allotted to the village guards at present manifested a sense of the level of
neglect under which they were operating.
- He, therefore, urged the concerned ministry to revamp and
strengthen the village guards and deploy them along the border instead of
promoting border fencing and free movement restriction policies.

- NPCC refutes BJP claims
- In another statement, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee
(NPCC) has strongly refuted the recent claim made by the president of BJP
Nagaland state, wherein he stated that "thousands of Congress workers and
officials" from 58 Shamator Assembly Constituency have joined the BJP. It
stated that such exaggerated and baseless claims from a high-profile leader of
BJP Nagaland are misleading and unacceptable.
- Basing on report from Tuensang District Congress Committee,
NPCC clarified that only 13 individuals have signed in support of joining the
BJP. It added that out of the total individuals, only 11 were enrolled Congress
members, while the remaining two were never registered Congress members.
- NPCC stated that BJP Nagaland’s claim of
"thousands" of Congress workers switching allegiance was completely
false adding that the numbers have been greatly exaggerated to mislead the
public and create an illusion of mass support.
- Nagaland Congress further urged the BJP Nagaland to uphold
political integrity and refrain from spreading misinformation.
