IMPHAL — Manipur’s
Lok Sabha MP, Dr. Bimol Akoijam, on Saturday called upon the district level
officers (DLO) of various departments in of Imphal West district to maintain
transparency, sincerity, efficiency and accountability in their work for the
betterment of the district and society.
Akoijam, who is also the chairman of District Development
Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA), chaired the concluding session
of the two-day DISHA committee meeting for Imphal West district at Kombirei
Hall, DC Complex in Imphal.
Reviewing the implemented and ongoing schemes, the MP also
encouraged all the concerned officials to boldly handle all challenges and
issues in sectors such as health, education, infrastructure, and livelihood
development, with discussions centred on improving the impact of these
initiatives. The success of government schemes depends on synchronised efforts
and practical governance, he said.
Earlier, DLOs of the district belonging to different
government departments including Health, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry,
Public Health Engineering, Consumers Affairs, Transport, Other Backward Classes
(OBC) and Scheduled Castes (SC), Handloom and Textile and SLEE, made
comprehensive presentations on topics related to their respective departments.
The day’s session was attended by the district Deputy
Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, representatives of other Assembly
constituencies, nominees of the DISHA committee, members of the Panchayats and
various stakeholders.
Purple Fest 2025 for PwDs concludes
The Purple Fest 2025 was successfully held on Saturday at
the City Convention Centre in Imphal, under the aegis of the Composite Regional
Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with
Disabilities (CRCSRE) Imphal. The event was organised under the administrative
control of SVNIRTAR Cuttack, Odisha, and in collaboration with the Department
of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan).
In his address, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities,
W Birahari Singh, emphasised that Purple Fest is for uplift of Persons with
Disabilities (PwDs) and to provide them a platform to showcase their talents,
skills, and abilities in areas such as arts, crafts, and cultural performances.
Stressing that society must recognise the contributions of
PwDs and ensure their full inclusion, as progress cannot be achieved without
their active participation, the state commissioner highlighted that the
celebration of Purple Fest reflects the spirit of inclusivity, resilience, and
empowerment.
“This festival has been more than just an event – it has
been a reaffirmation of our commitment to equality, dignity, and opportunity
for all. The colour purple symbolises justice and pride, reminding us of the
remarkable contributions of persons with disabilities to our society,” he said.
He also urged the general public not to hide or neglect PwDs
but to educate and support them through various government schemes designed for
their empowerment. Further, he encouraged individuals to reach out to his
office for any concerns or challenges faced by PwDs.
“As we part ways today, let us carry forward the lessons of
understanding, acceptance, and advocacy,” he said as his closing remark.
The day’s event also featured cultural performances by PwDs
and local artistes, showcasing the immense talent within the community.
Director of CRCSRE Imphal, N Khoibi Singh, who presided over
the function, also spoke on the occasion.
