Dimapur, July 23 (EMN): Assam Rifles commemorated the 20th anniversary of Kargil War on July 23 by organising motivational lectures with the school students in Kiphire and Peren districts.
In Kiphire, Assam Rifles celebrated the 20th anniversary of victory in Kargil War by organising series of motivational lectures highlighting the gallant battle fought on snow capped mountains of Kargil at Government High School in Longmatre, Government High School in Akhegwo, Mount Saramati School in Pungro, and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Kiphire.
A defence release stated that a total of 215 students along with faculty members participated in the event.
A friendly cricket match was also conducted at the helipad ground, Kiphire, between troops of Assam Rifles and DC XI. A total 30 players participated in the match.

In a related programme, the Jalukie battalion of the Assam Rifles observed ‘Vijay Diwas’ at Tening in Peren district. The event was organised to highlight a historic event in which the Indian army not only recapture of peaks but also being one of the few high-altitude tactical warfare in war history.
Remembering the martyrs who laid down their lives during the war, a lecture was conducted covering the episode and act of heroism of those who upheld the path of ‘Service before self.’
Video of the son of soil Capt. N Kengruse, MVC (posthumous), was also screened during the event.
Rev. Fr. Anthony, Rev. Fr. Paul, along with 110 students and eight teachers from St Francis De Sales School attended the lecture.
