Dimapur, May 14 (EMN): Churches across the State observed the International Mothers’ Day today by organising programmes to honour the mothers for their consistent and unfailing love. Besides greeting with hugs and kisses, mothers were showered with gifts and songs dedicated to them on the day.
Mother’s Day at Mary Help of Christian Church, Cathedral Parish, Kohima, was held with Rev. Fr. Carolus Neisalhou, parish priest and Vicar General of the Diocese of Kohima, as the main celebrant for the Holy Mass during which special prayers were offered for all mothers.
In his homily, Rev. Fr. Carolus, thanked and assured prayers to all the mothers. He made a special mention about the love of every mother and thanked them for the self-less love and care rendered in the family.
He said mother in a family is a “home maker” just as the deacons in the scripture (Acts 6: 5), who became the maker of Christian community in the early church. Explaining the scripture John 14:6 “I am the way the truth and the life. No one can come to me except through me,” he said mothers are not to be only home makers but also to be the one to lead the family to eternal life. He also exhorted the children to look up to their mothers for their selfless love and to appreciate and to pray for them.
Felicitation songs were performed by the youth and catechism children of Cathedral Parish to express gratitude on the happy celebration. The mothers were presented with surprising gift.
In another programme, St Xavier’s Church, Kidima, observed the International Mothers’ Day with Rev. Fr. Thomas Muttathil, parish priest, Kidima, as the main celebrant on May 14 at church premises.
In his homily, Rev. Fr. Muttathil lauded the mothers for their untiring service in nurturing an individual from birth till adulthood. On the occasion, he honoured the mothers for their unfailing love and care towards their children even at trying times.
The parish priest further called upon the gathering to take up the responsibility to live a good moral life rather than be driven by greed for material prosperity. Fr. Muttathil asked the faithful to give time for their children and family with love and care.
The gathering was enthralled with special numbers presented by Edikunu Patricia, Kidima Catholic Youth Association and Fathers’ Association.
In yet another programme, Phiro Village Baptist Church (PVBC) celebrated Mothers' Day by honouring the mothers befitting the occasion.
Daughters of Phiro village residing in Dimapur and married to non Phiro residents and kith and kin of Thungchanpemo Ovung also joined the church in celebrating the significant day.
The two groups felicitated all the mothers of Phiro church to show their respect and love and sought their blessings.
Lopilo Lotha from Dimapur, who was the main speaker, spoke on the topic "A truthful woman." Special songs presented by Phiro Baptist Church choir, Phiro daughters from Dimapur and deaconesses of Phiro church added colours to the programme.
Pastor Phiro Church, Thungchanshio Odyuo offered blessings for all the mothers, Abeny Odyuo from Dimapur delivered the greetings and Renchumi Zeliang also from Dimapur read the scripture. Mrs Nzani Khuvung from Dimapur shared her personal testimony to the congregation.
