MoS Murlidhar Mohol reaffirms Centre’s commitment to Northeast development

MOKOKCHUNG — On
his maiden two-day visit to Mokokchung district, Union Minister of State (MoS)
for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, Murlidhar Mohol, reiterated the central
government's commitment to the development of the Northeast states under Prime
Minister Narendra Modi.
- During an interaction session with heads of departments and
civil society organisations here at the deputy commissioner's conference hall
on Monday, the MoS emphasised the significance of the Act East Policy and the
transformative impact of increased budgetary allocations to the region.
- Highlighting that the Modi government has brought the NE
states into the mainstream of development, Mohol said that the annual budget
for the region has seen a significant increase over the last decade—from INR
25,000 crore to nearly INR 1.10 lakh crore.
- He also informed that numerous road, rail, and airport
projects are currently underway in the region, with plans for further expansion
to ensure comprehensive development.
- The union minister termed the Act East Policy as a
cornerstone of India's foreign policy, aimed at strengthening economic,
strategic, and cultural ties with Southeast Asia and the broader Indo-Pacific
region.
- He stressed that the policy has played a pivotal role in
integrating the Northeast into India's growth story.
- Mohol also congratulated the government of Nagaland for the
judicious implementation of centrally sponsored schemes. He assured that the
central government would positively consider the state's demands, including the
development of airport projects.
