George Kurian reviews development works, fisheries infrastructure and welfare schemes during Tuensang visit.

DIMAPUR — Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying George Kurian was on a two-day visit to Tuensang on March 1 and the 2nd.
According to a DIPR report, on Monday, the union minister had an interaction session with the heads of the offices under Tuensang district at the DC’s conference hall, Tuensang.
Kurian had a discussion with the officers on infant mortality rate, immunisation, public distribution system, skills development, nutrition, PM Kisan, PMAY-G, SHGs, educational system and National Highway 202.
He stated that the prime minister of India is deeply committed for the development of Northeast region and the central government is ready to assist the state government in infrastructure development and financial assistance for the welfare of the people.
The MoS also appreciated the good works rendered by the officers at the district and urged them to continuously work with sincerity and dedication for the welfare of the district.

Earlier, Kurian visited St. John Higher Secondary School, Tuensang and had an interactive session with the students.
Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, in her welcome address, expressed sincere gratitude to the union minister of state on behalf of the people of Tuensang during his visit to the district.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Tuensang, Shelly Katiry, presented an overview profile of Tuensang district through a PowerPoint presentation, highlighting key administrative and developmental aspects of the district.
During his stay, the MoS visited the Fish Farm Thimka at Tuensang Village, where he interacted with local fish farmers. Mhomo Murry, District Fisheries Officer (DFO) Tuensang, apprised the minister of the key challenges faced by the department, including poor road connectivity, inadequate infrastructure, and the need for more fishery ponds to enhance production and yield.
The DFO informed that there are more than 80 marginal fish farmers in and around the Thimka Fish Farm. The minister inspected the fishery ponds and hatchery tank at the farm and took stock of the ongoing activities.
The MoS also visited District Hospital Tuensang and Parade Ground Tuensang to assess facilities and infrastructure.
In the evening, the minister held an interaction meeting with tribal leaders, representatives of civil society organisations, and members of the BJP unit from Tuensang, where various local issues and developmental concerns were discussed.
