Dimapur, November 23
The Congress unit of 3-Dimapur-III Assembly Constituency Congress Committee (ACCC) has decided to resign in mass and join the Naga people’s Front (NPF) following a number of decisions during a meeting on November 23.
Members of the ACCC of 3-Dimapur III assembly constituency, local women and youth wing office bearers and party workers conducted an emergency meeting on November 23, the press release stated. The meeting is said to have been conducted in the private residence of Tokheho Yepthomi, minister, “in view of the latest political developments during which.”
The 3-Dimapur-III ACCC unit issued a press release on Monday, November 23, stating their case. The press release was appended by ‘former president’ Wati Walling.
Following the meeting, the members undertook a number of resolutions, the press release stated. The resolutions included a decision to resign in mass; objection to what the groups said was restrictions on opinions, and a decision to join the Naga People’s Front.
The constituency’s members have decided to resign from the Congress party. The first resolution the press release stated: “That, the ACCC 3 Dimapur III A/C has unanimously resolved to resign en masse from the Congress Party.
The resignations have been necessitated in view of the authoritarian and self-styled functioning of the President, DCC Dimapur and NPCC and their incompetent band of blind followers and ‘Yes-men’.”
The unit said that it has “realized that they were up to no good when they began to suspend us randomly and appoint unknown person to head the party in the constituency.” Such action, the press release stated, “has clearly proved detrimental and against the welfare of the party of which we have no desire to continue to be part of.”
The members also complained against “vicious circle of deceit, mistrust, suspicion and propaganda” and “intolerance, belligerence and arrogance of these leaders along with their refusal to accommodate all hues of opinion.” In spite of ‘continuous political persecution from the present leadership at the district and state level,’ the Congress unit complained, “We have remained steadfast and loyal to the party for more than a year since the political witch-hunting began.”
“However, with no respite in sight, it is crystal clear that the Congress party in Nagaland has been reduced to a mere tool in the hands of a disgruntled few who think and act like as if the Congress party is their personal private property.”
The unit said that said trend “has turned the party into a vicious circle of deceit, mistrust, suspicion and propaganda led by some of the last general election’s defeated candidates and their coterie against the victorious candidates and their supporters and sympathizers.”
The ‘intolerance, belligerence and arrogance of these leaders along with their refusal to accommodate all hues of opinion within the party and recognize the selfless contribution of the genuine party workers has proved to be the final straw on the camel’s back,’ the press release stated.
The ACCC also lauded what it called the “wisdom and leadership” of our Minister Tokheho Yepthomi and his “able team of colleagues for taking a bold decision to merge with the NPF party in the interest of all round development and progress.” They have stood firm and true to their conviction of working towards a united government in the interest of the Naga political ongoing negotiation and people of Nagaland at this crucial juncture, the press release explaied.
“…We, the former ACCC office bearers and party workers of 3 Dimapur III A/C having resigned from the Congress party, have unanimously decided to join the NPF party to strengthen the able leadership of Dr. Shurhozelie, Hon’ble President, NPF, Shri T.R. Zeliang, Hon’ble Chief Minister and Shri Tokheho Yepthomi, Hon’ble Minister and MLA, 3 Dimapur III A/C,” the unit added in its press release.
“We pledge to render our utmost sincerity and dedication to the NPF party as it is not only accommodative, but also encompasses the grassroots which is the nerve-centre of the party.”
