Dimapur, May 30 (EMN): It was a sign of the times that a remote town would host more than a thousand youths, including students from just a few college and school institutions there, looking for jobs.
The district administration of Mon district issued a press release on Thursday informing about the job fair during which a good number of industry opportunities were highlighted to the youths during said event.
A mega 'skills and jobs' fair was held on May 28 in the council hall of Mon town. The event was organised by the district administration in collaboration with the department of Labour & Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship.
The programme also had 14 empanelled training partners aiming at the implementation of skill development training and recruitment programmes as part of the skill scheme Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana.
The scheme is of the ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, the press release stated.
"This event was organised at Mon in view of the growing unemployment problem among the youth and lack of employment opportunities within Mon district. It is heartening to note that the mega skills and job fair had generated a lot of enthusiasm and interest among the youth and it is expected that many of them will be benefitted because a whole range of job profiles/sectors in various trades..." Mon's Deputy Commissioner Thavaseelan K stated in the press release.

The industry sectors he said were highlighted to the youths were tourism and hospitality, beauty and wellness, food processing, telecom, retail, apparel and home furnishing, and the media and entertainment sector, among others.
Altogether, 956 youths along with students from Wangkhao College and high schools participated in the event and the total turnout was around 1200, the deputy commissioner stated.
