Kohima, June 16 (EMN): Agriculture Production Commissioner (APC) T Imkonglemba Ao said that we are producing more than 30% of the total GDP growth rate through agriculture. That include cereal, pulses, spice, oil, livestock, fisheries, horticulture, cash crops etc which are the component of the agriculture sector added Imkonglemba while speaking at the opening of Pipi trader’s showroom, an agro machineries and implements outlet at New Secretariat Road, Kohima on Friday.
Lauding the farmers, he stated GDP growth rate shows your tangibility of your involvement and encourage the people to work along with the farmers so that a new technology can be brought about.
Citing on the project, he said Systemic Rise Intensification that started in 2009 by few scientists in North East was taken over by Government of India in 2012 and he further appreciated that it has helped the farmers in many ways.
Imkonglemba said with this, the reduction of labor cost has also reduced from 25-30% and return yield was doubled and mentioned that ATMA were working intensively with farmers.
He pointed out that the farmers were accepting the new technology and have reduced the cost in terms of labor and the department is trying to bring mechanization as Government of India also announced to double the income of the farmers by 2022. However, to double the income by 2022, he stated that it is not possible without importing the mechanization of the agriculture tools and implements as it will not be a profit.
He further acknowledged the entrepreneur like PIPI traders to come up forward as the government alone cannot play the contributory role further, the schemes provided were not enough to support the farmers unless the entrepreneur who has the purchasing power come up with such outlets.
In addition to that, he requested the NABARD financial institution to come and support the farmers, empower them to get financial support, so that they get their own machines and the economy of the state will be improve.
While lauding the initiatives of the PIPI trader, joint secretary for department of Agriculture Cooperation & Farmers Welfare under Union Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Tarsem Chand assured that the GoI was ready to support such initiatives.
With the inherent potential in this part of the country, he said there were number of schemes that the Northeast people would benefit from it.
Further acknowledging the entrepreneurs who are contributing to the farming mechanization, he asserted that unless we are modernized, we wouldn’t be able to compete with progressive countries.
