Kohima, May 7 (EMN): More than 100 people have been penalised for breaching restrictions and night curfew in Kohima since the consolidated guidelines issued by the state government came into force on May 5 evening.
The government of Nagaland had earlier this week announced Kohima Municipal Council, and New Capital Complex along with Dimapur Municipal Council, Chümoukedima Town Council, and colonies and villages along Dimapur-Chümoukedima four-lane road as contentment zones for a period of seven days starting at 7 pm on May 5, to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The deputy commissioner of Kohima and chairman of District Task Force on Covid-19, Gregory Thejawelie, told Eastern Mirror that there were reports of traffic violations in regard to odd-even rule, shops remaining open beyond the stipulated time and people breaching the curfew.
However, he maintained that the situation is "far better" than the lockdown last year as there are certain relaxations this time.
Meanwhile, police patrolling teams were seen stopping defaulters at several locations in Kohima on Friday.
Reliable sources informed Eastern Mirror that more than 100 people have been caught violating various guidelines so far and the defaulters were penalised by issuing challan and making them to sign certain papers not to repeat.
It was learnt that about 20 to 30 persons were found violating the restrictions at every location on an average and the police patrol the streets in shifts.
It may be mentioned that restrictions issued by the district administration to contain the steep surge in Covid-19 cases in the state came into force on Wednesday evening.
According to the order, business establishments and shops are allowed to open only from 6 am to 2 pm; odd-even traffic system implemented for vehicles; and night curfew imposed from 7 pm to 6 am to curb the transmission of Covid-19.
