Dimapur, Dec. 2 (EMN): Along with the rest of the world, Tuensang, Aboi and Meluri towns also observed the World AIDS Day on December 1 on the theme ‘Know your status.’
Tuensang: World AIDS Day in Tuensang was graced by SDO (Civil), Tuensang, Ajit Kumar Verma, as the guest speaker, which was jointly organised by the District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) and Network of Tuensang PLHIV (NTDP+), in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and Ahana (NCPI+) at CKS hall on December 1.
Speaking on the occasion, Ajit Kumar exhorted that the department alone cannot control to prevent spread of HIV/AIDS diseases. He urged upon church leaders, NGOs and society to coordinate with the department to disseminate awareness for prevention of the diseases.
District scenario on HIV/AIDS was presented by NETSU/NACO project officer Imsu Pongen, while legal aid services for PLHIV was delivered by panel lawyer Soteth
Anar, and the basic rights of the PLHIV was shared by Mrs. Tiuanu, president of NDTP+.
Chief medical officer, deputy chief medical officer, DAPCU staff, panel lawyer, church leaders, students and PLHIVs attended the programme.

Aboi: World AIDS Day was also observed in Aboi under Mon district. The programme was organised District AIDS Prevention and Control
Unit (DAPCU), Mon, in collaboration with TI, NNP+ Aboi with support from NSACS and Project Ahana at KNSK Hall, Aboi.
Briefing on the significance of the day, Longyim Tzudir, DPO, DAPCU, said World AIDS Day is observed every year on December 1 since 1988 for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV and to commemorate those who have died from AIDS-related illness.
He said this year World AIDS Day’s theme was focussed to raise awareness about the importance of knowing one’s status. He urged everyone to come forward and get tested for HIV which is voluntary and free of cost at government hospitals.
A silent moment was observed in memory of those who lost their lives to HIV.
Dr. Ajit Kumar, SMO, CHC Aboi, shared the basics about HIV and the advantage of timely access to care and treatment services, while Shongmet K, KNSK president, Aboi Unit, urged all to lend their unconditional love, respect, help and support to the PLHIV community.
Voluntary testing for HIV, STI and blood grouping was conducted by mobile ICTC and CHC team after the formal session.
Phek battalion of the Assam Rifles conducted a lecture and candle light march on the occasion of World AIDS Day in Meluri town.
The aim of the event was to educate the youth and locals about their health and menace of HIV/AIDS. After the candle light march, the public took pledge to fight against HIV/AIDS.
A lecture was also delivered by Dr. Medophretuo, medical officer of sub-health centre, Meluri, while the Assam Rifles medical officer inspired the youth to fight against HIV/AIDS.
The event was attended by 250 locals of Meluri town.
