Sao Chang College: The National Service Scheme and Red Ribbon club unit of Sao Chang Government College, Tuensang jointly organised “street play and rally” on the World AIDS Day at Tuensang town on Dec. 1 under the theme “stigma and discrimination against HIV/AIDS victims”.
The street play was displayed based on social discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS by volunteers of NSS & RRC at Clock tower, GHSS junction and St. John HSS junction. Along with the act, the student volunteers also carried out rally holding placards from Clock Tower to St. John HSS junction to create awareness among the general public to care for the HIV/AIDS infected people and stopped discrimination against them in any form. The messages of the rally included “Nobody wishes to get infected by HIV/AIDS,” “People who have been infected did not get infected at their wishes but through various unaware acts or situations,” “They can live a normal life if proper care and affection is provided to them because all human being have the right to live on earth.”
Joining the rest of the world, Zunheboto observed World AIDS Day at SKK Jubilee Hall, Zunheboto on Dec. 1 the programme was organised by DACPU in collaboration with ZDLSA, NZP+, 5th AR and other HIV & AIDS centres under the theme “My Health My Right”.
RMO, 5th Assam Rifles, Captain Dr. Abhishek Sharma, the guest speaker, spoke on the prevention, transmission and treatment of HIV/AIDS. He also stressed on the need to take proactive role by creating awareness among families, friends and neighbours.
DPO, DACPU, Atokali Assumi spoke on the significance of the day. She informed that 20 people were detected with HIV positive from April 2017- October 2017 and 27 were registered at ARTC from March 2017- November 2017 under Zunheboto district.
Hutoi Chophy spoke on theme. Short speech was also delivered by district and session judge, Niechochiyi Suyie.
DLSAs: As part of the World Aids Day, Dimapur District Legal Services Authority visited Bethesda Recovery Home Dimapur on Friday.
Santo Longchar, Panel Lawyer shared about the awareness about the awareness on their legal rights. Panel Lawyer Rokovistu Khate highlighted about the legal services authority and its functions.
In Wokha, the programme was organised by the District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) Wokha in collaboration with Wokha District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA) with the theme “Right to Health” at town hall Wokha. DC Wokha Dr. ManazirJeelani was the chief guest.
District HIV/AIDS scenario was presented by Lichumo Odyuo, DPO DAPCU, positive sharing by Abeni Lotha, WNP+ while panel lawyer Meribemo Lotha spoke on theme and retainer lawyer Gracy Ezung shared activities of the DLSA.
Longleng District Legal Services Authority (LDLSA) also observed World AIDS Day at the office of the LDLSA.
Around 30 drugs user attended the programme. Mane Phom, retainer lawyer LDLSA spoke on the ill effects of drugs and shared words of encouragement. The drug user also shared their testimonies. They also shared their views on organizing more programmes with the LDLSA in the future.
In Mokokchung, the District Legal Services Authority observed World Aids Day at NMP+ office.
Panel lawyer, Maongtula highlighted the NALSA schemes and panel lawyer, Tajungla Longkumer shared on legal aid and basic rights.
In commemoration of World AIDS Da, Phek District Legal Services Authority conducted legal awareness programme at Chepoketa village on Dec. 1.
Chairman PDLSA Longshithung Ezung, spoke on legal services activities; Vecto Sema, secretary Kohima District Legal Services Authority spoke on NALSA scheme; Samuel, APP spoke on gender equality; Mamang Singson, retainer lawyer spoke on welfare scheme.
