More militants arrested in Manipur

Imphal, June 11 (EMN): Manipur based armed group Kuki National Front’s former Defence PRO was rounded up along with a small arm and mobile phones during an operation by a combined team of Imphal West and Imphal East districts commandoes units during a midnight operation in Kangpokpi district. Disclosing this DGP Manipur LM Khaute told the reporters here on Sunday that the operations was conducted ‘on receipt of an input about the presence of some cadres of a Kuki UG groups who were involved in serious crime at Saparmeina village’ in the hill district. The team arrested one Letkhoson alias Soson (42),former Defence PRO of KNF of Saparmeina village under Saparmeina police station and recovered one 22 revolver with 6 live rounds,one each of Lava and Nokia mobile phones. “A case has been registered and investigation is on to find out his involvement in other cases including the killing of two KRA(Kuki Revolutionary Army) cadres on may 5 this year at N Boljang village,also under Saparmeina police station,” says the state police chief. In another search operation by Imphal West district police commandoes in and around Thongju area under Singjamei police station on June 8 morning, one Koijam Warjit Singh (47) of Thongju Pheija Leitong was arrested from his residence. “Incriminating articles were seized from his possession. He disclosed that he is an active over ground worker of PLA,” he added. “A case has also registered and investigation is going on.” On the same day around 12.20am, police commandoes of the same district arrested one individual Thoudam Hemchandra Singh alias Itomba (40) of Lairikyengbam Makha Leikai in Imphal during a raid at a shop (H & B Enterprises) along Dingku road in Imphal. Investigation revealed that he was involved in money transactions for the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Progressive).Incriminating articles along with one dongle and one computer set were seized from his possession,the police officer added. On June 9, three personnel of Manipur Rifles and Indian Reserve Battalion have been suspended from their services for their alleged involvement in stealing ammunition from the State DGP pool arms.
