DIMAPUR — The month-long second edition of the summer badminton camp will conclude on Saturday at Vidhya Bhawan Higher Secondary School campus indoor stadium.

Organised by Star Badminton Academy (SBA), Nagaland, in collaboration with Padukone Sports Management (PSM) Bengaluru, the coaching camp commenced on July 3 with head coach deputed by PSM Bengaluru and assisted by certified PSM coaches from Nagaland.

It was informed that 108 trainees consisting beginners and intermediate level category players (both male and female) were enrolled for the 2nd Summer Camp.

Hostel accommodation facility was also provided on payment for those interested to stay within the campus during the camping period.

Nagaland Red Cross Society also conducted a cardiopulmonary resuscitation demo during the camp to create awareness among trainees and coaches about emergency medical procedures to be adopted during classes / play. This has been necessitated owing to growing medical emergencies among players due to strenuous physical exertions in the courts, the organisers said.

It may be mentioned that the SBA, co-owned by Abeio Kire and Angam Shaiza, had conducted the first summer badminton camp in collaboration with PSM on July 2023. The camp was inaugurated by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Prakash Padukone on July 11, 2023 at the Vidhya Bhawan Higher Secondary School campus indoor stadium.

Abeio Kire informed that this year, the SBA is also be organising a Puja holiday themed ‘All Junior Tournament’ solely for beginners from age group 6 years onwards to 14 years, with an aim to give the beginners a platform to experience actual tournament.

He said that there is hardly any focused tournament in Nagaland that provides platform to youngsters of this age group (6 to 14) to compete and showcase their talents.
