Following incessant rainfall during the past few days in Mokokchung district, the low-lying areas of Tuli have been submerged by flash floods, causing widespread damage to plantation and crops. The Sub-divisional Officer (civil) of Tuli, Arikumba, offered updates that reports of several houses in the low-lying areas have been submerged. The flood has forced residents to vacate their houses, it was informed.
Citizens of Patizung ward in Tuli and Paola ward of Tsutikong are said to be two of the most-affected areas. The floods are said to have caused temporary suspension of vehicular movement along the National Highway-61. The highway passes said areas.
There is apprehension that should the rains persist, there would be more damage on the area although it is being said that the water levels are, till the filing of this report, subsiding.
The Nagaland pollution Control Board also issued a brief note on Thursday stating that the recent monsoon is causing flash floods in Tuli town.
“The photos show roads leading to Mokokchung being flooded. This phenomenon of flash flood occurred some ten years back also, in Tuli when a landslide dammed the Milak River and later on, the dam gave way to the impounded water. This year’s flash floods may also have been caused due to similar reasons,” the note added.
