DIMAPUR, JUNE 28 : After heavy rains and thunder storm hit the Dimapur district on Monday night, thousands are left with no proper electricity, floods along with so many other disasters.
One of the eucalyptus trees planted alongside the Old Flyover believed to be decades old collapsed last night at around 12:30 to the heavy rains.
The tree assumed to be measuring more than 50 feet was rooted out destroying two thatch houses and two garage vehicles (Wanger and Alto) belonging to one Ghukato, owner of the G. K Automobiles.
Ghukato said that the National Highway Staffs had come to inspect the area, and left with photos of the disaster caused by the fallen tree.
During a telephonic query with the garage owner at around 7:40 pm, it was learnt that no concerned department had come to displace the fallen tree.
While a tree that fell down at Army Supply Road (Dhobinala-Signal Road) at midnight blocked the road completely causing inconvenience to late commuters’. Likewise fallen trees were seen in few corners of the district. Also following the heaving rains, colonies like Duncan Basti, some areas of Signal Basti were left without electricity till late in the evening while corners of Burma Camp, Walford were left flooded.
