Monitoring comm. for Lok Sabha elections set up

Dimapur, Feb. 5 (EMN): The state media certification and monitoring committee (MCMC) for the conduct of the general elections to the Lok Sabha for 2019 has been constituted. An update from the government bulletin DIPR stated particulars concerning the committee. The committee is chairman Abhijit Sinha, chief electoral officer of Nagaland; and members: one observer appointed by the Election Commission of India; Limawati Ao, director of Information & Public Relations; Shahu Patole, deputy director of AIR in Kohima; and “senior journalist & correspondent” (sic); and Khegukha Sema, joint chief electoral officer of Nagaland. The committee are to perform two sets of functions. The group is to decide appeal from both district and additional CEO committees on certification of advertisement in accordance with the commission’s order dated the 15th of April 2004. Further, the committee is to examine all cases of paid news on appeal against the decision of district MCMC or cases that may take up suo motu, in which case it shall direct the returning officers in concern to issue notices to the candidates, the DIPR stated in its updates.
