Dimapur, Nov. 14 (EMN): The district administration of Mon has warned citizens in the area against hunting the migratory bird Amur Falcon. Those violating standing regulations that protect the bird will be prosecuted, updates stated.
The administration has noted that some villagers are reported to be hunting and killing the birds.
The government publicity agency the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) issued updates to the media on Thursday stating notifications from the district’s administration.
Deputy Commissioner Thavaseelan K is stated to have issued an order on November 13 informing citizens that the Amur Falcons are protected by the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.
Hunting, trapping, killing, or selling Amur Falcons for food or possession or otherwise, could lead to three years of imprisonment or a fine of INR 25,000 or both, sanctioned by Section-51 of the Act.
‘It has come to the notice of the deputy commissioner’s office that some unscrupulous villagers have been hunting, trapping and killing Amur Falcons in Mon district. Now, therefore, all administrative officers and the village councils in Mon district have been directed to give publicity in their respective jurisdiction and strictly enforce this order along with the police and Forest department,’ the IPR stated.
