Mon students compete in nutrition-themed essay writing

Dimapur, July 31 (EMN): An essay writing competition themed on the topic ‘holistic nutrition,’ for students of the classes 6-8 was conducted on July 30 at the government higher secondary school of Mon. The event was an advocacy campaign for Mon “convergence action plan activities” of the Poshan Abhiyaan, a nutrition programme, updates informed. The government publicity agency, the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR), issued updates on Tuesday to the media informing about the programme. Easther L Konyak, a class 8 student of Model School bagged the first prize; Imlirenla, a class-8 student of St. John School the second prize, while the third position was bagged by Yeilib, a class-7 student of Edith Douglas School and Ngemnyei, class-7 of Konjong Higher Secondary School, the IPR stated. The subdivision education officer of Mon K Limhathung Odyuo addressed the event. In his keynote address, the officer stated that a ‘holistic approach to proper nutrition encourages education on basic nutrition to develop a holistic diet,’ the IPR stated. “The most important components of holistic nutrition are incorporating natural foods into our diet. Holistic nutrition helps to achieved healthy lifestyles and expected to become a good citizen, a good leaders and a good responsible person,” he added. Further, according to the IPR, Odyuo mentioned also that developing a healthy and balanced diet help relieves stress, memory loss and other mental conditions. “Holistic nutrition focuses on a natural approach to a healthy diet and incorporates emotional, spiritual and physical health to create a state of well being for optimum health,” he added. The project officer of the Social Welfare department for Mon, T Yanlem also spoke at the event. He spoke about the National Nutrition Mission programme, informing the students that the Poshan Abhyaan was a “convergence programme” that involves different line departments, the IPR stated.
