Dimapur, July 15 (EMN): A social audit and public hearing on the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) for Mon district and Chen blocks was conducted on July 15 at the DRDA Resource Centre in Mon.
The government publicity agency, the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR), gave updates on Monday about the programme.
During the audit, MGNREGA official Wennyei Konyak urged the village development boards “to bring success story of all the developmental works for the benefits of individual and public,’ the IPR reported. He advised the boards to work in accordance with the guidelines of the MGNREGA. Likewise, he urged them maintain proper records and documents.
Vitokha Yepthomi, extra assistant commissioner of Mon and independent observer from the district’s administration spoke at the event too. He stated that developmental activities in the villages should be properly managed and in accordance with the guidelines. He urged the village development boards not to have financial mismanagement but implement the works properly for the benefit of the people.
Further, another official, state resource person Vepo Keyho, said in his introductory speech that the social audit and public hearing for the MGNREGA was mandatory for every village. The findings and issues that have been found will be sorted out and reviewed, he added.
District Resource person Temjenwapang Jamir gave a presentation on the findings of different gram panchayats. The official read out some of the findings during the social audit.
‘Some of the findings were improper maintenance of register, muster roll not relevant, lack of work place facilities, technical estimate which are not match, improper maintenance of Job card and photos,’ the IPR added.
Officials from the district development agency, Mon district administration, village development boards, and members of nongovernmental organisations, among others, from Mon and Chen blocks attended the social audit hearing, the IPR’s updates stated.
