Minister for Public Health Engineering Department Tokheho Yepthomi on Friday inaugurated what is being called a first its kind solar water treatment unit in the far-flung district of Mon. The event was conducted at the Mission Compound in Mon.
The total project cost was Rs. 50 lakh. Yepthomi said more such treatment units would be set up in other parts of the state to ease the problem of scarcity of water. He said all available water should be taped to provide adequate water supply to the people. He sought cooperation from people for adequate supply of water by the government.
The executive secretary pf Konyak Baptist Church Association, Chemnyu, thanked the department for installing the treatment unit for the Mission Compound which has been facing acute shortage of water. The Mission compound has one Theological college and a school.
Chief Engineer of the department Kevisekho Kruse, highlighted the technical report. He said water discharge at source would be 43,200 liters per day.
Earlier, the minister and department officials along with parliamentary secretary for CAWS, Yallow Konyak held a meeting at Mon village with village leaders on new water project for five villages which have been facing severe water shortage. Yepthomi said government would start the mega project soon but sought the support of all five villages. He said that without the people’s support, the project would not have been completed on time.
The minister also asked people to protect and preserve flora and fauna so that water supply would not be affected. He said for adequate supply of water forest should be protected.
Later in the afternoon, the politician inspected the Public Health Engineering department’s store and interacted with the officials and staff members. He assured to make all efforts to provide water to all those areas which have been facing shortage of water supply.
