
Dimapur, Oct. 25 (EMN): Mon district tobacco control cell (DTCC) conducted a sensitisation programme on ‘Tobacco use and its harmful effects on human’ at Wangkhao Government College on October 25.
An update from DTCC stated that the resource person and NTCP district nodal officer, Dr. I Simon Sumi, highlighted on types of tobacco consumption including smoke and smokeless forms. It stated that Dr. Simon has stressed on the importance of sensitising the people on harmful effects of second-hand and third-hand smoking.
He said exposure to second-hand and third-hand smoke have immediate harmful effects on the heart and blood vessels and can cause coronary heart disease and stroke. He added that women and children are the most vulnerable to second-hand and third-hand smoking.
The resource person further urged the students not to fall into tobacco addiction but to spread awareness on the ill-effects of tobacco.
Report further stated that a short video clip on ‘Tobacco’ was screened at the end of the programme.
