Dimapur, Jan. 20 (EMN): Along with the rest of the country, Mon district has decided to observe ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ (BBBP) week- empowering girls for a better tomorrow- from January 21-26.
Informing this in a press release, deputy commissioner, Mon, Thavaseelan K, stated that the week is being observed to generate awareness about BBBP campaign. During the campaign, several awareness programmes would be conducted in all the sub-divisions under Mon district.
He informed that a public rally in support of the campaign would be conducted in the district headquarters on January 22. Self defence classes for women will be organised for Wangkhao College girl students later in the day, he added.
On January 23, street plays and flash mobs would be organised in different parts of Mon town, while on January 24, National Girl Child Day would be celebrated in the DC’s office.
Besides this, ‘Father Daughter Selfie’ competition has been organised for residents of Mon town as part of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign.
As per the terms and conditions of the competition, applicants from Mon district are to Whatsapp three selfies of father and daughter on three separate days between January 21 and 25. Name of father and daughter along with contact details should be mentioned.
It stated that three winners would be invited to the deputy commissioner’s office on January 28 to receive the prizes. The winners would receive cash prizes of INR 4000, INR 3000 and INR 2000.

Mon to observe Dr. T Ao birth anniversary
Commemorating the centenary birth anniversary celebration of Dr. Talimeren Ao, district public relations office (DPRO), Mon, has decided to screen a documentary on the life of Dr. Talimeren Ao at Mon town council hall on January 23 from 3 pm onwards.
A DIPR report stated that district sports officer, Mon, Anguvito Sumi, would deliver a brief lecture on the life history of Dr. Talimeren Ao, while the chief medical officer (CMO), Mon, would dwell on health talks.
All interested students and youth of the district are invited to the programme.
The function is been organised by the department of youth resources and sports in collaboration with the department of information and public relations and health and family welfare.
