DIMAPUR — Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has announced that Mon district of Nagaland has been selected under the newly approved Prime Minister Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY).
In an official communication to Nagaland Lok Sabha MP S Supongmeren Jamir, the Union minister informed that Mon was among the 100 aspirational agricultural districts identified for focused development under the scheme.
The initiative, approved by the Union Cabinet on July 16, 2025, will be implemented over six years beginning from the financial year 2025–26. The formal launch of the scheme is expected in October this year.
Chouhan stated that the districts were selected on the basis of three key indicators—low crop productivity, low cropping intensity and limited short-term credit disbursement.

The scheme, he said, aims to enhance agricultural productivity, promote crop diversification and sustainable farming practices, strengthen post-harvest storage at the panchayat and block levels, improve irrigation facilities and ensure better access to both short-term and long-term credit.
“The scheme will proactively address gaps in agriculture by converging existing programmes of the department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare as well as those of allied ministries and departments, in close partnership with states,” the minister stated.
For effective implementation, committees will be constituted at the district, state and national levels.
The District Committee, headed by the District Collector, will play a pivotal role in preparing the action plan in consultation with stakeholders and monitoring progress through a dedicated dashboard with defined Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Expressing confidence in the MP’s leadership, Chouhan urged cooperation of state authorities for smooth implementation of the scheme. He added that detailed operational guidelines and instructions were being issued to all state chief secretaries separately.
“Looking forward to working in close coordination with you and the state authorities to make PMDDKY a grand success,” the Union minister said in his letter to the Nagaland MP.
