Dimapur, July 31 (EMN): The first meeting of Mon block task force on immunisation (BTFI) on measles – rubella (MR) vaccination campaign was held in the DC’s conference hall, Mon town, on July 30.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chumlamo Humtsoe, SDO Mon sardar and chairman of BTFI for MT campaign.
Addressing the meeting, Chumlamo informed that it should be everyone’s responsibility to give proper vaccination to all the children. He requested all concerned to ensure MR vaccine to every child from 9 months to 15 years of age.
He also urged the members to pass proper information to all the families in their respective wards and villages and to ensure immunisation of all children against the dreadful diseases.
He requested the members to support and co-operate for the successful conduct of the campaign which would start from October 3.
Dr. Elizabeth, medical officer, CMO office, Mon, explained that measles is an acute viral infection spread via respiratory secretion or aerosols adding that mortality is highest in children.
She also explained that rubella is a mild and self-limiting viral illness which is infected during early pregnancy and could result in spontaneous abortion and serious birth defects.
She also pointed out that vaccination would be given by trained health workers. Besides, some of the key vaccination facts were also explained in details.
Mewang, SHP co-ordinator, spoke on roles and responsibility of various departments in MR campaign through power point presentations.
Village council chairmen under Mon block, presidents of eleven wards of Mon town, SIS of education department, CDPOs of social welfare department and information assistant from district public relations office attended the meeting.
It may be noted here that the state health department has been undertaking vigiorous campaign on measeles-rubella in all the districts tfor the past months.
