Dimapur, March 29 (EMN): With the objective to effectively implement the HIV prevention and control programme in the district, the Mon District AIDS Prevention and Control Committee (DAPCC) held a meeting on March 28. The meeting was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Thavaseelan K, in his office chamber.
Exhorting the members, the deputy commissioner acknowledged the participation of government departments, civil societies, churches, students, NGOs, medical and para medics in the committee. He called upon the members to share their activities and views to effectively implement the HIV prevention and control programme in the district.
Longyim Tzudir, district programme officer, DAPCU Mon, has highlighted on the overall activities carried out by DAPCU and partners towards HIV and AIDS prevention and control in the district during the year 2017-18 and shared some key agenda for future actions.
Topic on the need of leadership training for block/ village level on HIV and AIDS was discussed where support from key sectors such as DRDA, social welfare department, education department, district public relation officer, church associations, and district legal services authority were asked to collaborate for carrying out the proposed activities successfully.
In regard to voluntary blood donation, the members acknowledged the Mon District Voluntary Blood Donors’ Association and Red Ribbon Club for their selfless contribution and encouraged them to carry out more sensitisation programme among the targeted group. The members from Outreach Gospel Ministry have also shared some of the voluntary services rendered for drug addicts including opium through organising free detox camp, They have announced to organise another free detox camp in May 2018 in Mon and requested the district administration to extend support to make the programme a success.
Also, Dr. Yingnei K talked about treatment services for PLHIV. The official mentioned that due to poor financial condition, many PLHIV cannot avail facilities. Dr. Tiasunep, DTO, briefly spoke about the HIV-TB collaboration, while Ingaupeule, OST counsellor, spoke about OST services and the need for more OST centres in Mon district.
