DIMAPUR, MAY 23: BUSINESS establishments in Mon town had iterated their stance against extortion or “collection” or donations in any form from shops. Those found engaged in forcing money from shop keepers would face ‘action,’ a local organization leading the town’s businesses have decided.
The Mon Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) conducted its annual general meeting in the Council Hall of Mon town on May 14. Following discussions, the MCCI adopted a number of resolutions, a press release from the organization to the media earlier this week.
The MCCI has denounced extortion or “collection” of any kind from the business establishments. ‘Any kind of collection (taxation/extortion/demand) from the shops is not allowed. If anybody is found engaged in any of such activities, serious action shall be taken against them,’ the press release stated.
Those registered with the MCCI are warned against engaging in any illegal activity. Persons found engaging in unlawful businesses or activities and antisocial element will face serious action, the MCCI stated.
The MCCI has also cautioned business establishments against selling expired or faulty goods.
‘Expired goods are not to be sold. If anybody is found selling expired goods, action shall be taken against them seriously. Also, checking is not allowed to be conducted in the market without the knowledge from the district administration and the MCCI,’ the organization stated.
All the business establishments in Mon town are directed to register with the MCCI “by virtue of paying the annual membership fees,” the organization stated.
The organization also resolved to conduct an “annual meeting every year.” Besides, the business establishments have decided to conduct an ‘annual audit on or before annual general meeting.’
