The newly-constructed Mokokchung College of Teacher Education’s administrative building was has been inaugurated. Parliamentary Secretary for Higher Education & SCERT Deo Nukhu inaugurated the building as the chief guest, at Yimyu Ward, Mokokchung on December 12.
Speaking during the occasion, Deo Nukhu said that the department has recently submitted a proposal to the government of India for construction of sanitation and toilets facility at government institutions. Many of the institution are not ‘well-equipped’ with the facility, he said. He also hoped that most of the colleges and institutions in Nagaland will have proper sanitation facilities soon.Further, the legislator said that the government has asked assistance from the central government to construct more colleges for teachers’ education. A proposal to setting a B.Ed institutes in Mon and Tuensang and a government teachers’ college in Dimapur is under process, he said. He also said that Nagaland Teacher Education in Kohima has proposed to set up an institute of advanced studies in education, a semi-university type institute which will provide masters and PH. D degrees.
The parliamentary Secretary lamented ‘many teachers, mainly high school level teachers’ are appointed on regular bases but they send substitutes without informing the authorities. This is not proper, he said, and maintained that teachers should be punctual and attend their duties.
“In our state according to report we have received, a large majority of the teachers are not trained. I am afraid a time will come those do not have training without B.Ed degree may not be allowed to teach on regular bases especially in government institutes,” he said. And these are a compulsory requirement degree to teach in schools, he added.
Mokokchung’s Deputy Commissioner Sushil Kumar Patel (IAS) also spoke during the event. He said there was nothing permanent except change, and urged the teachers to teach moral values besides teaching basic educational instructions. New teaching methods should also be adopted to ‘nourish’ the students, he said.
The new MCTE administrative office was estimated be completed in 24 months but took only 18 months, and at a cost of rupees 4 crore. The RCC building is a double-floor with 18 rooms.
