Mokokchung, Wokha play out 3-3 draw in 25th Dr. T. Ao Trophy 2026 opener

DIMAPUR — Mokokchung and Wokha played out a 3-3 draw in the opening match of the 25th Dr. T Ao Trophy, the Inter-District Football Championship, Silver Jubilee Edition 2026, at the Renpo Lu Sports Complex, Ungma, Mokokchung, on Tuesday.

According to a press release, the 70-minute encounter produced six goals, with both teams demonstrating attacking intent and determination in the opening match of the tournament.

Mokokchung captain Sentilong opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a direct free kick, giving the hosts an early lead.

Wokha responded through Yibenthung Ezung, who found the net in the 29th minute. However, Mokokchung regained the advantage when Lanutemsu scored in the 33rd minute.

Wokha continued to fight back, with Victor Kithan converting a direct free kick in the 47th minute to level the score.

Mokokchung regained the lead through Yashimeren in the 60th minute, putting the hosts in a strong position.

However, Yibenthung Ezung struck again in the 70+3rd minute to complete his brace and secure a 3-3 draw for Wokha.

Despite late efforts from both sides, neither team managed to find a decisive goal, and the contest ended with the points shared.

The match statistics showed Mokokchung's attacking advantage, with 60% ball possession compared to Wokha's 40%.

Mokokchung registered 11 shots on target compared to Wokha's six. The hosts also won six corner kicks, while Wokha registered two.

Mokokchung committed six fouls compared to Wokha's seven. Wokha were caught offside three times, while Mokokchung recorded none.
