Dimapur, Nov. 24 (EMN): The Mokokchung District Truck Owners Association (MDTOA) has announced its decision to call-off the ‘chakkha bandh’—restriction of commercial trucks’ traffic along Mokokchung roads—from November 24, 12:00 noon.
“After four days of bandh (on the Mokokchung-Mariani road and the Mokokchung-Amguri road), the MDTOA strongly felt the plight of the general public, not only of the Mokokchung district but also of our sister districts especially Tuensang and Zunheboto.
“But responding to the clarion call of the Ao Senden – apex organization of the Ao community – and also after the on-spot inspection with the Mokokchung district administration, Ao Senden officials, MDOTA and Pick-Up Union, Mokokchung (PTUM), the chakka bandh is being lifted temporarily,” stated a press release from the association on Friday.
“Therefore, the MDTOA is lifting the chakka bandh as a mark of respect to the apex Ao organization - Ao Senden – that requested for calling off the bandh; and also since there is a little visible improvements being made in the worst part of the NH – 702D.
“The MDTOA, however, asserts that this temporary lifting of the chakka bandh is just goodwill gesture in public interest and to facilitate the district administration and the PWD (NH) to finish their works at the earliest. If no visible improvement is seen or experienced on the vital NH 702D, the MDTOA would be compelled to resort to more drastic actions in the days to come.”
