Mokokchung to host first inter-school basketball tournament

MOKOKCHUNG — The Basketball Association Mokokchung District (BAMD), under the Nagaland Basketball Association, will organise the first-ever Mokokchung Inter School Basketball Tournament from July 10 to the 12th in Mokokchung.

Themed “Forging Future”, the event aims to nurture young talent and promote basketball at the grassroots level, BAMD stated.

This marks BAMD’s first district-wide initiative. Open to all high schools and higher secondary schools in Mokokchung district, including those in towns, villages, and subdivisions.

Schools can register and contact BAMD for details, it was informed.

The BAMD president outlined the tournament’s objectives as showcasing students’ basketball skills, fostering sportsmanship, discipline, and unity, and promoting leadership and teamwork.

It was stated that the platform would encourage healthy competition and skill development among students. BAMD will offer coaching support to schools upon request, providing mentors to prepare teams.

The association envisions the tournament as an annual running trophy event, cementing its place in Mokokchung’s sporting calendar. Lodging will be arranged for participating teams, though schools must manage their own food arrangements. Registration details, guidelines, and fixtures will be shared soon.

BAMD anticipates strong community support to make this maiden tournament a success, fostering a legacy of basketball excellence in the district.
