Defending champions Dimapur and host Mokokchung will vie for the championship title of 6th Inter District Veteran Football Trophy on Friday at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung.
In the first semi final match on Thursday afternoon, Mokokchung book its final spot with a 2-0 triumph against Wokha. The first half saw fantastic performance from both teams, but failed to find the net leaving the score-board clean. Entering the second half, Mokokchung make a brilliant come back and created an opportunity in 45 minutes as the opponent team make a silly foul inside the penalty area. The referee awarded an indirect kick for Mokokchung which Akangtemsu (Jersey-6) made no mistake to find the net with a swift strike. Having taken the lead, a bolder Mokokchung team continued to create chances and finally in the 57 minutes, the score was doubled by Hobemo (Jersey-20).The second semi final saw Dimapur thrashing Tuensang by 4-1 and also securing their final spot to defend their championship tile. With the blow of the whistle, Dimapur came with fully activated attacking mode. The first goal for Dimapur was nailed by Lima (Jersey-10) in 6 minute with a brilliant header. The second goal was scored by Oinam (Jersey-5) in the 12 minutes. However, in the 14th minute, Tuensang managed to minimize a goal with a fantastic header from Humat Thunpong (Jersey-9). In the 29th minutes of the match, Lima found the net for the second time taking the scoreboard to 3-1.
The second half witness Tuensang zeal to recover its position but the strong wall of the Dimapur defense line could not be penetrated. The Dimapur again managed to land a goal in opponent net through the boots of Sangjit (Jersey-9) in 51 minutes.
During the three-day 6th inter district veteran trophy, 35 goals have been scored with Kapi John (Jersey-17) of Mokokchung and Lima (Jersey-10) of Dimapur scoring four goals each.
Wokha and Tuensang will be vying for the third spot at 7:00 AM on Friday while the championship match between Dimapur and Mokokchung will be played at 10:00 AM.
