Dimapur, March 6 (EMN) : The Mokokchung unit of the Nagaland Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers’ Association (NSSATA) has demanded that the state government of Nagaland release their salary pending four months. The organisation issued a press release on Monday expressing frustration and warning the government of ‘drastic action’ if the demand remains unmet.
NSSATA teachers across the state are undergoing “untold hardships because of the non release” of salaries by the state government for the past four months, the press release stated.
“Even after the assurance given by the Education department on November 2, 2016 for timely release of salaries, the teachers are left in quandary about the release of their salaries.” The organisation iterated that the state government has failed in releasing the salary of the SSA teachers from November. The NSSATA unit said that its members “facing untold financial hardships while trying to start the new academic session.”The NSSATA expressed strong dismay at the Nagaland government for failing to keep “its November, 2, 2016 promise” to release their salary.
“It must be pointed out here that the NSSATA has kept the part of its bargain and called off the agitation and successfully concluded the 2016 academic session. The NSSATA Mokokchung unit had strong faith on the state government to meet the demands of the teachers. However the non-release of the salaries for the past four months indicates otherwise,” the press release stated.
In this regard, the SSA teachers in Mokokchung district, “in our distress and frustration”, have warned that they have no option but to go for “some drastic action in the weeks to come.”
“Thus far, we have been performing our duties for the academic session 2017. We have been admitting the students and making preparations for the lesson plans etc, though our salaries have not been released,” the teachers stated. “We had high hopes on the government, but there is a limit to everything, and therefore we question, ‘how long can we be bear this lackadaisical attitude of the state government towards us’.”
The organisation has appealed to the state’s government to release the salary at the earliest “so that we can serve the society to the best of our abilities as before.”
The teachers explained that withholding their salary “can be termed as an act of indignation to the noble profession, which surely cannot be accepted in the eyes of men and God.”
The organisation has warned of boycott: “As such, the NSSATA (Mkg Unit) will have no option but to take drastic actions like boycotting of classes which unfortunately will affect on the smooth conduct of classes and the future generation of our society.”
A related matter that the press release mentioned was that the NSSATA unit have met on March 5 and have “resolved to expedite the matter with the government till the end.”
The group has decided to convene a general meeting on March 11, 2016 at Ongpangkong Salang from 10:00 AM to discuss the matter at hand.
“All the members are informed to attend the meeting without fail; strict actions will be initiated against those who fail to attend the meeting,” the note added.
