AKTM launches a two-day skill development programme at Kobulong to promote youth self-reliance, entrepreneurship and traditional skills

MOKOKCHUNG — The Asetkong Kaketshir Telungjem Mungdang (AKTM) launched a two-day skill development programme on self-sustenance at Kobulong EAC sub-division on Monday.
Held on the theme “Pei Ketmung ajanga litetba shishashir,” the workshop drew more than 60 young participants.
AKTM president Bendangkumzuk stated that the programme was organised in line with a resolution adopted at the 43rd Asetkong Kaketshir Telungjem Mungdang.
He said the primary objective is to foster self-reliance among the youth by equipping them with practical skills and creating avenues for self-employment.
“AKTM believes that our own community possesses valuable skills, knowledge and resources that can be developed into sustainable livelihood opportunities. Through this programme, we hope to inspire our youth to become more skilled, independent and self-reliant,” he added.

AKTM women coordinator informed that participants are being trained in basket making, amzu preparation (traditional sticky-rice biscuit), tapioca bhujia production and banana chips processing on day one.
She noted that amzu, a traditional sticky-rice biscuit passed down through generations, is gradually disappearing; therefore, special emphasis has been placed on preserving this cultural heritage while exploring opportunities to promote it as a local product.
Participants are also learning marketing, photography and video editing to help promote their products and access wider markets. Resource persons from the local area are sharing valuable indigenous knowledge and expertise, an AKTM official informed.
The AKTM president further remarked that the initiative aims to equip youth with practical skills, safeguard traditional knowledge and promote self-sustenance and entrepreneurship.
On the second day, participants will receive training in shiitake mushroom cultivation along with specialised sessions on business planning, product promotion and marketing linkages in both online and offline modes.
