Mokokchung, May 12 (EMN): A 58-year-old woman, claimed by the Mokokchung police as the “kingpin” of a drug racket, was arrested from a private residence at Changtongya town in Mokokchung district on May 12. She was arrested along with five others.
According to ASI Sentiyanger Ao, the special operations team (SOT) commander of Mokokchung DEF, the cops have been ‘tracking the kingpin’s illegal activities for years and finally got to arrest her along with narcotics at 8 am today’.
He said that after receiving a tip-off, the SOT set up a team of trackers at around 3 am. Later in the morning, as the cops lay in wait, four persons came to buy the banned drugs from the woman. The police team swooped in and arrested them all.
The woman’s ‘male associate’ was also arrested. Mokkchung police refused to disclose the identity of the woman stated to be the “kingpin” of a drug racket in the district.
It was informed that the police personnel seized “some gram” of brown sugar, Spasmo Proxvon and Nitroxo tablets and cash amounting to INR 84,600 from their possession. According to the police official, she was selling the drugs concealed in small plastic cases used for storing tobacco products.
All the arrested persons as well as the seized items have been brought to Mokokhung Police Station-I and further investigation is on, it was informed.
