Dimapur, April 24 (EMN): The Mokokchung police have arrested a habitual thief, who is wanted for robbing three residential houses in Mokokchung town on April 23, informed Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) in a press release. It said the robber was apprehended by the police at around 4:30 pm on Tuesday near MMC Shopping Complex before he could escape to Guwahati.
The arrested person has been identified as Wongto Chollen, 21, of Hakchang village under Tuensang district.
The MCCI stated that the accused broke into a home at Alongmen Ward and stole a gold necklace worth INR 80,000; stole a mobile phone handset and an ATM card at another house at Arkong Ward; and robbed INR 6000 from a house at IM Road in Arkong Ward, between 10 am and 1 pm on April 23. It went on to say that the accused was nabbed by the police while alighting from a local taxi near MMC shopping complex based on the CCTV footage.
A case has been registered against the accused under section 380 IPC.
The MCCI said that accused was earlier booked earlier this year and in 2018 for theft. Saying that all the victims of Tuesday’s burglary were traders and members of the union, it expressed appreciation on the prompt and proficient discharge of duty by the Mokokchung police.
“Further, MCCI believes that the District and Sessions Judge Mokokchung will not show any leniency while trying the case this time and that the habitual offender will serve his full term as per the law of the land,” read the statement.
