Mokokchung, April 14 (EMN): Mokokchung observed district level Ambedkar Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. BR Ambedkar on Saturday April 14 at the District Welfare office.
Speaking on the occasion, Mokokchung’ Sub-Divisional Officer (civil), Mekala Chaitanya underscored that Dr. Ambedkar was the principal architect of the Constitution of India and a founding father of the Republic of India who inspired the Dalit Buddhist movement and campaigned against social discrimination against untouchables (dalits), while also supporting the rights of women and labour.
He urged the Education department to incorporate Ambedkar’s principles as part of school curriculum and also the Social welfare department to provide various scholarship programmes to students launched by Government of India.
Chaitanya said that it is the duty of the department to take responsibilities and update various welfare schemes of the government to benefit the people. “Our job should be our religion,” he added.
He asserted that “a person can only fulfil their aspiration only when opportunities are provided to them.”
