April 22 at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex. This year marked the third edition of Inter-School Football tournament organised by the Mokokchung District Football Association under the aegis of the District Education Office and co-sponsored by Nehru Yuva Kendra Mokokchung. In the first match, Children School humiliated GMS Senkalemba 4-0. The combined goals of Moakum and Menjur’s hat-trick helped Children School to proceed to the second round. The first goal for Children School was scored by Moakum in 24th minute while Menjur secured the first hat-trick of the tournament in the 41st, 51st and 59th minute of the game. The defending Champion, Mayangnokcha GHSS also beat Straightway Hr. Sec. School 2-1 in the second match. Straightway first broke the goalless deadlock 0-1 in the second half by Temjenwapang in the 39th minute, but, ill luck struck Straightway two minutes later when they conceived an own goal 1-1. With both the teams under tense pressure to secure a win the teams continued to disturb the opponent areas but failed to produce a result while the clock was running out.  Finally, in the last few minutes of the game, Mayangnokcha attempted a full-scale counter attack and settled the match in their favour 2-1. The winning goal for Mayangnokcha was scored by Yashimeren in the 56th minute. QMHSS also defeated 2 NAP Hr. Sec. School Alichen 2-1 in the third match. Aolemzung opened the first account for QMHSS in the 17th minute and ended the first half with a goal advantage for QMHSS. The second half saw a rejuvenated 2 NAP Hr. Sec. School Alichen equalising the score 1-1 in the 36th minute through Imtiyanger, however, the moment was a short lived when Lipoksungba of QMHSS doubled the score 2-1 a minute later and sealed the fate of 2 NAP. The last match between Nagaland Christian Residential School (NCRS) and Canaan Christian Hr. Sec. School (CCHSS) was the most interesting one. The match ended in a 1-1 draw and had to be decided via tiebreaker where NCRS won 3-1. With equal strength both teams exhibited some good football during the match.  NCRS ended the first half 1-0 through Tethrongli in the 11th minute but after the break, CCHSS equalised the score 1-1 in the 55th minute by Ashish. The second round of the tourney on April 23 will start from 10 am onwards. Earlier, Sademmongla, DEO Mokokchung kicked off the tournament as the chief match patron.
