Imkumniba inaugurating the 6th Mokokchung Inter-School
Badminton Championship at the Indoor Badminton Stadium in Mokokchung on Wednesday.
- MOKOKCHUNG — Imkumniba, Councillor of
Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), inaugurated the sixth edition of the
Inter-School Badminton Championship at the Indoor Badminton Stadium in
Mokokchung on Wednesday.
- Organised by the Mokokchung District Badminton Association
(MDBA), the three-day tournament will conclude on April 26.
- In his address, Imkumniba lauded MDBA’s storied legacy in
nurturing badminton talent across the district since its inception. “MDBA has
been instrumental in promoting the game and shaping young athletes,” he said,
commending their ambitious Vision 2024 to produce an Olympian from Mokokchung.
- He highlighted MDBA’s relentless efforts through coaching
camps and a packed tournament calendar aimed at grooming elite players.
“Badminton is more than a game—it’s a test of speed, skill, strategy, and
agility, demanding intense competition,” Imkumniba remarked.
- The tournament features around 170 players from 14 schools
in Mokokchung district, competing in a wide range of categories: Team
Championship; Under-9 Boys' and Girls' Singles; Under-11, Under-13, Under-15,
and Under-17 Boys' and Girls' Singles and Doubles; and Open Category Boys' and
Girls' Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. Notably, no government schools are
participating this year.
- The event underscores the MDBA's commitment to fostering
badminton at the grassroots level, aligning with its goal of elevating the
district's players to national and international stages, said MDBA President
Imomar.
