Mokokchung inter-club badminton c’ship underway

(EM Images)[/caption] Our Correspondent Mokokchung, Oct. 19 (EMN): The Mokokchung Inter-Club Badminton Championship organised by the Mokokchung District Badminton Association (MDBA) got underway at the Indoor Badminton Stadium, in Mokokchung on Thur. Oct. 18. The third season of the tourney was officially declared open by T J Longkumer, Director General of Police (DGP) Nagaland as the chief Invitee. Speaking at the programme, the DGP of Nagaland asserted that those sportsmen who excel in games and sports will excel in all the other aspect of life. “It is natural that one who excels in sports and games will be good in all the other aspect of life,” Longkumer remarked. He also opined that parents should encourage youths who are into sports and games because they always develop themselves to excel not only in sports but in other areas of life too and they become very successful. Longkumer also recalled that at one point of time, Nagaland was the best in sports and games in the whole Northeast and those players were to be reckoned with. ‘We have the sporting history and legacy, it is the duty of the elders to nurture and developed the youngster,’ Longkumer said.  He also lauded the MDBA for including categories up to the youngest players to encourage and compete to excel and enhance their skills. He said MDBA is a nurturing body for clubs and young talents for the future stars of badminton. He also suggested that sending out young talents and developing players for proper coaching is very important. He also asserted that Nagas are very strong with an inbuilt physical agility and stamina and the players to keeping striving and never-give-up spirit to be their moot. Earlier, Er Yanger Pongen, tournament convenor, delivered the welcome address and Dr Wati Jamir NBA Vice President and Joint Secretary Badminton Association of India also spoke at the event. Players who represented in Northeast zone inter-state badminton championship and other events were also felicitated during the programme. The clubs that will be participating in the tournament are Longsa Sporting Club, Golden Feathers, Chungtia, Native Shuttlers, Mopungchuket, The Shuttlers, Chuchuyimpang (A), The Shuttlers, Chuchuyimpang (B), Badminton Association, Khensa, and Soyim Smashers, Ungma. The tournament will be played on a best of seven matches’ format and the categories are U-13 boys single, men doubles, U-15 girls single, veterans 35+ men’s doubles, U-17 boys singles, veterans 45+ men’s doubles and junior mixed doubles.
