Mokokchung, October 30
The Minister of Health and Family welfare P Longon on Friday assured that Mokokchung district will have a Morgue unit with embalming facility at Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH), Mokokchung. The minister also disclosed that it would be implemented under the Additional National Health Mission during 2016-17.
This assurance came, when Mokokchung ADC Rajesh apprised that postmortem facility here is in pathetic condition, during a review meeting held at IDSP Hall, IMDH. If the unit is set up then it would not only help keep unclaimed / unidentified dead bodies but would also facilitate in conducting autopsy.
The Minister also visited the under construction Mokokchung District Chief Medical Office, Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital, District TB Hospital , Nurse Hostel and Impur Christian Hospital along with Commissioner & Secretary, M. Patton, Principal Director Dr. Nandira Changkija and officials from the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare Kohima.
After the tour the Minister had a district review meeting with the district officials and staff where they discussed about the departmental activities and human resources in the district. He also expressed his satisfaction over the whole administration and managements of the health centers, but pinpointed that as far as the report of the District is concern performance need improvement.
Striking a chord that IMDH is not only for Mokokchung but also the referral point for neighboring Districts and especially the Eastern Nagaland Districts, Longon encouraged the officers and staffs to give its best performance despite their heavy duties. He also assured that positive supported will be given to them from the department.
Longon also informed that IMDH remarks from the eastern district is very satisfactory and asked the medical officers and staff to be more sincere and responsible while discharging their duties. He also urged the Doctors to do away with Alcohols since their profession demands ‘to save life’.
Also, Dr. Nandira Changkija, while dwelling on the less output result said “We are entering into the era of management, it will be very soon become mandatory for Doctors and Nurses to get management training.”
She also urged the Doctors and nurses to enter the patient’s detail data they have treated before the management programme start.
Regarding School health programme, she asked the chief medical officer and medical superintendent to coordinate and to open the clinic during the afternoon, so that students can avail the facilities after their schools are over. She also added that such facilities are not avail to the students because most of the time the clinics are open at the wrong time when students are at schools. M Patton IAS, Commissioner & Secretary H&FW also informed the each district will have a pharmacy in the Hospital and added that it has already started in Dimapur and Kohima.
CMO of Mokokchung Dr. SS Akaba also proposed to install X-Ray machines in three CHC of the district, at least one in Tuli CHC.
On the query by the media persons, Dr. Nandira Changkija reply on the Minister behave that Radiotherapy here will operational after the physician completed her specialization studies and radiation safety measure clearance is given from the concerned authority. “We trying to ensure that the Radiotherapy here to become operational by the middle of next year,” She stated.
