Mokokchung, Dec. 20 (EMN): Mokokchung town has an urban primary health centre (UPHC) now. The centre was inaugurated on Thursday by Dr. Vikeyie Losu, principal director for the department of Health and Welfare.
Mokokchung’s UPHC used to be housed in a rented building at Alongmen ward. Now it has its own permanent building at Yimyu ward, constructed from the National Urban Health Mission.
In his address during the programme, Losu said that the UPHC was constructed to ‘bring medical support closer to home.’ He appealed to the people for their support and cooperation for the authorities to be able to provide better health services to the citizens.
Losu informed that the department had conducted a survey to study disease vulnerability and to assist in the procurement of medicines. Likewise, he said that a population-based screening on diabetes, hypertension, cancer etc., would be undertaken soon. The medical officer of the centre, Dr Sholongba T Jamir informed that the UPHC would be run by a medical officer, four nurses and a pharmacist. He said that the centre would cover two main activities namely institution service (OPD, delivery etc.) and outreach services (medical camps and Urban Health Nutrition Day events etc).
Free facilities such as OPD consultation, medicines, laboratory tests beside emergency, and medical and fitness certificates etc., would be provided at the UPHC, he informed.
