Mokokchung, April 26 (EMN): A part of commemorating National Road Safety Week, Mokokchung district’s traffic police have decided to devise strategies to manage traffic and instate safety measures for motorists and pedestrians alike.
The Mokokchung establishment announced this during a police-public interactive session on road safety and traffic management that was organised by the Mokokchung police at the MMC conference hall on April 26. Important issues concerning traffic congestion in the town and issues of safety management were deliberated during the event.
The additional deputy commissioner of Mokokchung W Manpai Phom said during the event that suggestions and issues raised by the community in the town were ‘challenging.’ He assured that the issue of congested parking areas in the main town would be addressed with the department and stakeholders, to provide remedies.
The officer also assured to regulate issuance of driving licences so that reckless driving and violation of traffic rules would be curbed in the town in the near future. Lamenting that Mokokchung town does not have a master plan till date, the ADC said that process was on to design a master plan.
Also, he informed that a multi-storied parking area for the town was about to be set up. It is the preliminary stage and needs further planning, the gathering was informed.
The subdivision police officer for Mokokchung, Dinesh Gupta, also briefed the participants about the current traffic plans being undertaken by the traffic police.
Further, additional superintendent of police Relo T Aye said that traffic depends on the number of government offices, schools, and business establishments in the town. He asserted that traffic management and safety depends on knowledge about taking responsibility.
Officers from the administration, and members of the Ao Senden, Watsu Mungdang, and Ao Students’ Conference, besides organisations representing the business community and youth groups attended the event.
