
MOKOKCHUNG — The Mokokchung District Congress Committee (MDCC) handed over tickets to 11 prospective candidates for the upcoming urban local body (ULB) elections in Mokokchung district on Saturday.
The ticket distribution programme was held at a resort in Yimchalu along with a thanksgiving and victory celebration for Indian National Congress (INC) candidate S Supongmeren Jamir, who emerged victorious in the recently concluded 18th Lok Sabha parliamentary elections.
During the event, Toshipokba Longkumer, the convener of the ULBs election committee, and the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee member disclosed that the Congress party will be competing for five seats within the Mokokchung Municipal Council and six seats across the town councils in Mokokchung district.
In the general seats of the Mokokchung Municipal Council, the candidates include Bendanginla O (from Majakong), T Nungshitemjen (from Yimyu), and Bendangchuba (from Alongmen Wards). For the reserved seats, the candidates are Yongkongsangla R (from Artang) and Rongsenlemla Jamir (from Marepkong).
In the Tuli Town Council, the candidates are Temsumenba Imsong (from Mendenti Ward), Imlionen (from Tuliyong Ward), K Imlitemjen (from Longpong), and Imobendang Lemtor (from Lukongmendang). For the Changtongya Town Council, the candidate is Marwati (from Longchara), and for the Mangkolemba Town Council, the candidate is Zamok (from Nokyu).
The Congress leaders also mentioned that three of their candidates from the Tuli Town Council are running unopposed. Additionally, they stated that another list of potential candidates is in the works for the upcoming elections in Mokokchung.
During the programme, Toshipokba Longkumer congratulated the candidates on securing the party tickets and urged party workers and supporters to strengthen the Congress from the grassroots, aiming for victory in the ULBs and setting a target for the 2028 general elections in the state.
