
MCTE faculty and students during the 14th foundation day
programme in Mokokchung town on Wednesday.
- MOKOKCHUNG — Mokokchung
College of Teacher Education (MCTE) observed its 14th foundation day at the
college premises on Wednesday.
- Delivering the introductory remarks, the college’s vice
principal, Dr. Temsurenla, spoke on “A glimpse into our legacy,” where she made
a mention of how God has consistently been faithful to the college since its
inception in 2012.
- She recalled the early difficult days when the college had
just two regular teachers, including her and visiting lecturers from DIET
Mokokchung, SCTE Kohima, and few government teachers.
- She acknowledged the contributions made by the former
principals and expressed gratitude to Dr. Alemla Longkumer, the current leader,
for her unwavering support and guidance.
- She celebrated the achievements of the student-teachers who
have brought laurels to the college by achieving the feat of ‘University
Topper’ since 2015. She also challenged the current batch of 2023-2025 4th
semester student-teachers to work hard and accomplish the same.
- Dr. Longkumer also lauded the teaching faculty's
perseverance and achievements, noting that they were now putting in a lot of
effort for the first NAAC assessment under the leadership of Kerilhusa,
assistant professor and IQAC coordinator.
- "Is AI a threat to humans?" was the first question
asked of the participants in the highly anticipated foundation day lecture on
"The super intelligence threat- Can we control AI?" by Ngangsham N
Chemdok, lecturer at Computer Science and Engineering, ICIT, Mokokchung.
- Chemdok discussed three primary types of artificial
intelligence namely ANI- Artificial Narrow Intelligence, AGI-Artificial General
Intelligence and ASI-Artificial Super Intelligence, where he pointed out that
the AI that we currently employ is ANI (Artificial Narrow Intelligence), while
the other two are merely theoretical concepts.
- Additionally, he emphasised the applications of AI in
everyday life and also discussed on how AI assists education through lesson
plans, emotion recognition in classrooms, voice assistants for learning,
gamified learning experiences, educational podcasts and audio-books etc.
