DIMAPUR — Mokokchung College of Teacher Education is conducting its inaugural ‘Fusion fest’ on the theme ‘Navigating our roots’ at the college premises. The event, which commenced on Tuesday, will culminate on March 1.
On the first day, cultural and literary competitions were held, attended by P Tiatemsu, assistant professor, department of Botany at Fazl Ali College and advisor of Arju Centres, Mokokchung, as the special guest, as reported by the DIPR.
Addressing the gathering, Tiatemsu emphasised three key aspects worthy of navigation—work culture, traditional knowledge, and community life.
He underscored the significance of preserving intangible cultural heritage, including family traditions, social events, skills, arts, and, most importantly, values. He expressed concern that these values are ironically in grave danger.
The special guest stressed that it is the ardent duty of people to take responsibility for spreading their rich cultural knowledge to the next generation. He also encouraged the students to prioritise hard work, resilience, purpose in life, and indigenous knowledge.
The four-day events include competitions such as traditional firemaking, extempore, folktale narration, duet, indigenous games and sports, stall exhibitions and sales, and a musical spectacle.
