MCCI says no to UG’s “contribution” demand

Dimapur, April 21 (EMN): The Mokokchung Chamber Of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) has in the outright rejected an extortion bid by an unnamed Naga ‘political group’ that was stated to have sought “contribution” from business establishments.
The MCCI issued a small but sharp statement on Sunday: “Illegal taxation” shall not be allowed in Mokokchung under any circumstance.

The organisation did not name in the press release the functionary who issued the extortion demand or the underground group behind it.

The MCCI stated: ‘A particular section of the business community in Mokokchung town was issued a demand notice by a deputy kilonser of a Naga political group to “contribute” a sum of Rs.10,00,000 to its chaplee ministry against “dealership/shop/various business establishment” on or before April 30, 2019.’

The MCCI’s executive council met on April 19 to discuss the issue. Following the meeting, the organisation has “strongly resolved that, as reiterated earlier on multiple occasions, illegal taxations shall not be allowed in Mokokchung and that the said demand shall not be entertained under any circumstances, whatsoever.”

“MCCI views this latest demand notice as a serious violation and infringement on the rights of the business community, which we shall never compromise with,” the press release added.
