Dimapur, May 2 (EMN): Twenty nine professional drivers from north-eastern states and across the State completed their first Sprint run at the 5th Mokokchung Auto/MotoX and Moatsu Sprint 2019 that got underway at Yimchalu village, Mokokchung on Thursday.
The three-day motorsports event is organised by Adventure and Motorsports Association Mokokchung (AMAM) and it will witness drivers and riders compete for the podium finish in Auto/Motocross and Moatsu Sprint events.
There are three categories: Above 1300 CC, Below 1300 CC and SUV in the Autocross and Moatsu Sprint segment, while motocross (two wheelers) is categorised into two: novice and expert levels .
In Sprint events, participants will be given two runs covering a distance of 4.2 Km where best clock between the two runs will be tabulated with their autocross performance. The first run of Moatsu Sprint concluded on Thursday.
On Day 2 (Friday), Moatsu Sprint second run will continue along with flagging off Motocross. Earlier, a brief flag off programme was held with W. Manpai Phom, Additional Deputy Commissioner and Administrator Mokokchung Municipal Council as the special guest.
In his address, Phom acknowledged the efforts of AMAM on being consistent in organising the event on an annual basis, thus entering into the calendar year as one of the major events of Mokokchung besides promoting tourism. He also called upon the participants to participate in the true spirit of sportsmanship and encouraged them to let sports be the champion.
The ADC also lauded the Yimchalu Village Council for declaring the village as “Plastic Free Zone” during the event and thanked the Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) for providing free drinking water to support the village council’s declaration.
Village Council Chairman Yimchalu Wati Walling welcomed all participants as well as spectators to the village. He also thanked the AMAM for selecting the village as the venue for the event for two consecutive years. AMAM President Imkongmar delivered the welcome address.
It is to be mentioned that Mokokchung Auto/MotoX and Moatsu Sprint 2019 is part of the Northeast Championship ranking round four.
