Mokokchung: 1 killed, 3 injured in three road mishaps

MOKOKCHUNG — One person was killed and three others injured in three separate vehicle mishaps in Mokokchung, on September 13.

In the first incident, a Maruti 800 car plunged into a steep gorge near the Estate Office at Alempang ward, Mokokchung town, in the wee hours of Wednesday. The 39-year-old diver was verified as spot dead, Mokokchung police said.

His co-passenger, who was immediately shifted to the hospital with forehead injury, has since been discharged.

A suo moto FIR under ‘unnatural death’ has been registered and further investigation is underway, police said.

The same day around 4 pm, in a suspected case of rash and drunk driving, a Hyundai Eon car hit a mother-daughter duo near the petrol pump at Sungkomen ward. The duo who suffered minor injuries is out of danger, police said.

In the third accident, a Maruti Suzuki van rammed into a stationary bus at FAC bus stand, near the traffic police point in Mokokchung town square. Police attributed the accident to mechanical failure.
