Diphu, May 1 (EMN): Convening a press conference at District Press Club of Karbi Anglong (DPCKA) office on Saturday, the chairman of Joint Action Committee for Autonomous State (JACAS), Khorsing Teron said that large sections of people are discontented with the April 28 ‘Peace, Unity and Development rally’, which has done nothing for the people of Karbi Anglong.
Teron said, “The impression given from the rally is that there are no issues, peace has prevailed and people only want development. The state government has succeeded in giving the impression to the prime minister that there are no issues and people only need development. We can say the rally was a total failure, but for the state government it is a success as it has managed to suppress the people’s longstanding demand for an autonomous state.”
The ruling party has miserably failed to highlight the implementation of Article 244 (A) of the Indian constitution to the prime minister. Though the leaders have failed, the demand will continue until it is fulfilled, he added.
Between INR 40 crore to INR 50 crore was spent for the prime minister’s visit. Where are the sources to collect such a huge amount to spend for the rally, Teron questioned.
It will not be good for the people of Karbi Anglong if the leaders go on following the dictates of the state government. The elected members of the ruling party cannot speak or act on their own. They have to follow the dictate of Dispur, he added.
The Joint Coordination Committee for Protection of Autonomy (JCCPA) said that the unity, peace and development rally organised during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit at Loringthepi on April 28 showed an impression to the prime minister that there is no issues, peace has prevailed and what people need is development.
